Facts about Martial Arts for Kids – Part 5

Dec 22nd, 2009 by admin

“Will my child become more violent from learning karate, jujitsu, or another martial art?” In a word, “No.” Children learn self-control by practicing martial arts; and the code of conduct that is enforced, within the studio, is carried outside into every day life. The average martial arts school works with parents, and academic teachers, toward the goal of optimum student success. When you see a Karate demonstration team perform, that is not an indicator of the life skills taught within the Karate class. It is the “flashiest” component of Karate training, presented to capture the public attention. Ten minutes of kids using ancient weapons, breaking, and working in synchronized choreography, is more interesting to the public, than a lecture, by me, about dealing with bullies without violence. However, let’s take a closer look at the ten minutes of flash. The next time you see a martial arts demonstration team, remember those children have to practice those techniques over and over again. This requires self-discipline, goal setting, perseverance, and each child being a team player. There is no room for a “one way” personality on any martial arts demonstration team. Such a personality would work against a good public performance. In a typical Karate class, all of the above-mentioned life skills are learned and much more. Children learn much more about violence on the television, playing with video games, and dealing with daily life, than they will ever learn in a karate class. Even if a Karate teacher was the classic “evil sensei,” that you may have seen in the Karate Kid movie or on Kung Fu Theatre, most children can think of far worse violence. All you have to do is watch the news, cartoons, listen to the radio, or read a newspaper, to see things worse than unsupervised hand-to-hand combat. So, the self-defense methods taught to children actually pale in comparison to school shootings, bombings, wars, and drive-by shootings. Karate was created by unarmed civilians on the island of Okinawa and was taught in secret among family members for their personal protection. The philosophy, within a martial arts school, will not always be the same, but the seeds of violence are not sown within a martial arts setting. All you have to do is look around you to see more, and far worse, violence than learning self-defense – integrated with constructive life skills. The fact is a martial artist is not a “street fighter.” If that were a requirement, we would recruit the toughest kids in North Providence. As I explain to the children in my Karate and Jujitsu
classes, “Never forget the word, “artist,” means to be
creative, to be an innovator, and to think for yourself.” Children who learn martial arts are more apt to be well adjusted and defuse a potentially violent situation. On top of that, most children who study Karate, or any other martial art, will not be “trouble makers.” The children we teach from the Greater Providence, Rhode Island area have learned enough about leadership, in our Karate and Jujitsu classes, to think for themselves. For parents, the gift of martial arts training to their children has many rewards, right now, and into their future. © Copyright 2005 – Paul Jerard / Aura Publications WP Autoblog Plugin

Dec 22nd, 2009 by admin

Every child in the world is born with the entire gift given by the god. This child turns around into a good adult in the future and is ready to face their life. But every child after quiet long years is not the same they were in the childhood. This is because of their experience and attitude which they gain from their surrounding environment in the past. So it’s necessary that the child lives his/her own life freely and in a learning environment. This makes the child self ready for the future. That is the child should experience all kind of things in the childhood which makes her ready for the future. This experience in the child hood stays as a sweet memories in his life. And that helps him to tackle all kind of situation. The child needs to learn all kind of things neither it is bad or good left to him at that circumstance. He should realize the mistake in it by reading the world. And then act to it accordingly. So, it’s necessary that the child never avoids any opportunity to him the future. So, let him experience the world with his own open eyes. So, he would be a better man in the future facing all kind of obstacles in a beautiful manner. As a parent you must keep one thing in the mind. As he gains experience he also grows. On one day he may suddenly look more height than you. So, you need to keep an eye on his health. And make him learn how important his life, which god as given to all of us. And how should every one carry away this life with a good health through out the life. Unfortunately, many children today consider sitting activities such as playing video games, television add more fun than games that involve physical activity. Here, we must rethink our priorities and put our own health and the health of our children first. Children who lead healthy lives will likely have leaner bodies, stronger bones and muscles, improved coordination, better posture, and fewer health complications as adults. In addition to the physical benefits, those children concentrate better in school, have increased self-esteem, are less likely to suffer from anxiety or depression, and have a better overall outlook on life. Its one of the best thing you could give to your child, it as lots of advantages a good things in it. May be he would one day turn around as a good musician. And it would also help him in studies. It is said that a child who learns music normally performs well in his studies. Music also helps him improve his creativity & imagination. Increase your child’s self-confidence and satisfaction by encouraging him and offering gifts. Telling children they are doing a good job is one of the best ways to keep them active. Be careful not to use sitting activities such as computer time as a reward. Children imitate adult behavior. Children whose parents watch excessive television are likely to do the same. So, you act as an example to him. So, he learns a lot from your life without you directly teaching him. So, start today by making your child to find a variety of activities that are a good fit for his personality, ability, age and interests. Then give your child as much experience as possible to be active. Making Dinnertime More Kid Friendly

Dec 21st, 2009 by admin

Most adults love to have a nice dinner where they can relax, enjoy good food and good conversation.  Well when it comes to our kids, their idea of a good dinner would most likely be eating a slice of pizza before diving into a pool of multi-colored, plastic balls, and playing the video games at the local kid’s restaurant.  While I’m not going to suggest that you get a large, inflatable, bouncing area moved into your dinning room, I do have a few small tips that may help your kids and you enjoy dinnertime at home, together.    1.     Play some music that they will enjoy.  It doesn’t have to be blasting from the stereo-you can monitor the volume and I would suggest listening to it beforehand to make sure it is appropriate.  2.     Let your kids make their own placemats.  You can use scrap paper and let them decorate a piece for their placemat.  Make sure they know that they will have to toss them after dinner. You can also let them make more permanent ones by having the paper laminated. 3.     Make your own happy meals.  Get the brown paper lunch bags and decorate them or even let your kids do it.  Wrap their dinner in wax paper or place in small storage containers. Then place a small toy in the bag along with their dinner.  The toy does not have to be expensive or even new.  You can get some cheap toys at the dollar store the next time you are out, or you can dig into the bottom of their toy box and find a toy they have forgotten they even had.  They will enjoy the surprise of it all, more than the toy. 4.     This one is different from the theme of the others but you may be surprised how much your children enjoy it.  Get out your best dishes, glasses and silverware.  Teach your children how to properly set a table for a formal dinner.  Try going over a few table manners throughout the week before your dinner.  Then have everyone dress up for dinner.  The meal does not have to be fancy if you do not want it to be.  You could serve chicken nuggets and Kool-aid, it doesn’t matter, your children will still remember the experience of it all.   Sherry Pence is a wife, mother, educator and WAHM. Dec 21st, 2009 by admin

Everyone knows that if you’re exercising to lose some weight you need more than a little motivation, doing push ups and running on a treadmill may burn calories but let’s face it, its not exactly fun and most people find it harder to be motivated if the exercise in question is boring.
You are much more likely to continue with an exercise routine if you enjoy doing and it, Wii weight loss is fun, energetic, addictive and something that all the family will enjoy
The Nintendo wii is a video games console. It has a wireless remote controller which is a unlike any other games controller we have seen before. One of the other advantages is the console is moderately small so not something you need to find storage space for unlike your hulking rowing machines and sit up boards!.
The idea of the wireless controller is that you can have power over the game using substantial gestures so movement plays a massive part.
Wii weight loss is something that will keep you and your family fit as well as having fun, the exercise qualities are incredible as well as having a competitive game involved to stop the monotony setting it.
Computer consoles are something that most families have a budget for so you will be using something you would probably be purchasing anyway which will save you cash as well as keep you healthy.
If you talk to someone who already owns a wii you will soon be conscious that most people after playing it for the first time get up the next day with aches and pains. The same aches and pains you would have if you had gone to the gym proving that wii weight loss burn calories and keeps you fit.
Wii weight loss is achieved by means of games that can be played on the console that involve lots of movement, sports are one of the most popular, with non-stop movement and the shared addictive merits of playing a game you will soon find yourself burning off those calories and having fun at the same time!.
There is no exact wii weight loss plan, all you require to do is find a game you like that involves a lot of movement (boxing is always a good one) have a go and see how it makes you feel, if you feel your heart rate increasing and you start to sweat you know your body is burning fat and well on the way to a healthier body.
The wii is without exception a distinctive way to workout not only for you but for your family as well. It is a fact of life nowadays that almost all kids adore to play video games so to make certain they have a healthy life the Wii is most likely the greatest console to buy.
